Wheelhorse 212-6 will not start HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hey, I am new here, I am looking for some help with my tractor. It will not start, I replaced the battery, plug, and I thinking I was sure I knew what the problem was I just now replaced the starter + solenoid. When I turn the key the red light on the panel comes on, and the voil meter reads 12v but nothing else happens no clicks no spins nothing. Im not sure what else to try, I am kinda a noob to Tractors, I have some experience working on my small block Chevy, but nothing with tractors and mowers. Prior to this starting problem the tractor was running fine. I feel like I am running blind here, I dont know what else to try, also I dont know where to find most of the parts for it if it needs them, I was lucky to find the starter on ebay. It is a model 212-6 with the Kawasaki FB460V engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated, trying to get this thing to run before spring, and on a tight budget cannot afford a new tractor.

It sounds like you might have a bad PTO switch or neutral safety switch.

Here's a link to the wiring diagrams:

Follow the diagram and use a test light or meter to check the switches.

Because you didn't post the year or model number, there's a 50% chance that it's the correct schematic - if there's even a difference between the two years the 212-6 was produced. :confusion-shrug:

Thanks for the reply, where is the neutral safety switch located?

Hey, I just went back to the garage, messing around with it again. Pulled the new starter off, unhooked the wires, rehooked everything, put new starter back on, and she started up like new! :happy-bouncyyellow::happy-jumpeveryone::woohoo: One thing I did notice the battery cable is really worn (i had to push it and hold it on the battery for it start, might of been part of the problem), so I ordered a new one of those just now. I cant belive it, I have pronounced this thing dead at least 100 other times :deadhorse: , I thought for sure it was gone this time, and it always comes back to life running like new! I guess they really knew how to make em! Plus it cuts grass better then my neighbors brand new Poulan :happy-jumpyellow:

Glad you found us. Be sure to post some pictures of your tractor(s).

Keep in mind, a loose/corroded conection, or a bad ground will cause all kinds of electrical problems.
