Killer 2000 Chevy 83 #1 Posted February 12, 2013 the motor is not on it but comes with it it's an onan the guy took it off and took it apart. The fender pan is cracked and the front tires need replaced what should I offer him? The rest of the tractor is complete and looks good.
ericj 1,579 #2 Posted February 12, 2013 why was the onan taken apart and is it a 8 sp or hydro but from the sounds of it only $ 100.00 or $200.00 at the most the cheaper the better is there a deck with it ? eric j
Killer 2000 Chevy 83 #3 Posted February 12, 2013 The guy who has it got it in a trade. The guy he got it from told him that he took it apart because it started smoking. He later found out its common in the Onans that they smoke if something wasn't properly maintained. Well I don't know too much on the onan motors but I do know you have to maintain anything. It's an 8 speed and to sweeten the deal it has a snow blower to go with it. I have him willing to part with it for $100. I just wanted to know it it was worth that but that was before the blower was part of the deal.
Whmaverick 54 #4 Posted February 12, 2013 Good deal for the snow blower alone, curious about why a C-175 has an onan in it though.
Killer 2000 Chevy 83 #5 Posted February 12, 2013 He said it was an onan. I just looked it up and it has to be a kohler 17hp twin. It was in pieces and mostly in a plastic tote.
Wheel-N-It 2,976 #6 Posted February 13, 2013 Its probably a Series 1 KT-17. Not such a great engine. Not saying the tractor is bad though. Repower the tractor with a Series 2 KT-17, or even better a V-Twin 20 horsepower setup. Send us a PIC !
546cowboy 302 #7 Posted February 13, 2013 (edited) I had a C-175 and put a K-341 it. That was a really nice tractor with that 16 Kohler in it. No worries there about when the engine was going to let go. Sounds like the PO didn't know much about engines. Couldn't tell a Kohler from an Onan. Can't go wrong for $100 though with the blower.
