Kevbo 81 #1 Posted February 9, 2013 For $75...I just bought this from a shop teacher at a local high school! My father-in-law's friend knew the guy and hooked us up with a phone number. It looks like its from the 1960s but I have no idea on the model or anything; this is the oldest Wheel Horse I ever picked up! I know it has a recently rebuilt 10HP Kohler with apparently only 8 hours on it and it had a hydro tranny that has a filter on it. The plow you see in the pics is an old sears and obviously rigged to fit...I also got a spare set of wheels/tires and a relatively new seat! The hydro apparently works but the linkage rod is bent up so I gotta fix or replace and hook it back up. The random belt on the back was to "pull it around" LOL...whole thing was sandblasted and painted about 20 years ago. I am looking forward to cleaning this up and getting her moving! Anyone know the model or year based on the pictures? Will post more soon! I'm on my way to buy a battery!

TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #7 Posted February 9, 2013 A friendly word of advice for when you attempt to get this running..... Remove the drive belt - or at least jack it up and block it so the rear tires are off the floor. The early hydros have the uncanny ability to take off when ever they desire, and I'd hate to find out that you got ran over by your own tractor or that you had to chase it for three blocks. Once it's moving under it's own power, never let it running unattended unless you have it securely blocked/chocked to prevent movement. Do not trust it! Edit: If it still has an ID tag, it will be here:
Torino 15 #8 Posted February 9, 2013 You got a steal. The extras you got are worth at least what you paid for the tractor. Got a slot hitch to. You did good.
Wheel-N-It 2,976 #9 Posted February 10, 2013 Kevin, you got it soooo bad now! LOL I should know, I got it bad too! I could not have walked away from that one for twice what you paid for it so GOOD SCORE! Now hurry up and get back with the battery and let us know how it runs. OK we're waiting! GlenPettit 1,717 #10 Posted February 10, 2013 Never saw an extended air screen on the engine like that, looks like it was designed for very grassy work - filtering.

Kevbo 81 #14 Posted February 10, 2013 Thanks everyone! TT I made sure I took the drive belt off thank you! Took a little bit of work to get it running: I had to clean the connections to the ignition switch in order to start it because we were not getting spark. Once that was taken care of I had replaced the spark plug with a Autolite 216 and one squirt of gas and it started up! I forgot to mention I also had to replace the fuel line to the pump due to some major leaks near the tank...since this has not been started in 10 years I was very happy to hear it actually run and run very well at that! After I got some heat in the engine I drained the oil...jet black in color...I replaced with 10W-30 Castrol and some MMO. I had to readjust the belts and I found a huge tear in the starter/generator belt which needs to be replaced. Still starts it though! I also had to tighten up the belt guard and there were like three hitch pins missing between the parking break and the transmission linkage so I got that hooked up properly. Speaking of the parking break the rod was bent up like crazy and we had to straighten that our and reattach if which was quite tedious!! I checked the tranny fluid and it looked clean and not too low. Once everything was hooked up properly and tightened we finally started her up and IT MOVED! First time driving a Wheel Horse hydro and boy was it nice... Tomorrow I plan on cleaning her up a little more and tearing off the rest of that sears plow. Here are some latest pictures: I have a couple questions if anyone could help: 1) What kind of filter must I get for the transmission? 2) What type of fluid/oil does the transmission take? 3) I want to replace the muffler...what size piping and what would stock look like? 4) What size/type belt do I need for the starter/generator? Thanks everyone! Hope you enjoyed my update!
Killer 2000 Chevy 83 #15 Posted February 10, 2013 exhaust is 1"pipe . the muffler stock would have been the salt/pepper shaker style. I prefer the stack like mine.
Killer 2000 Chevy 83 #16 Posted February 10, 2013 I believe the belt is a 32" small v belt. can pick these up at napa or any car parts store. I used a cloth tape measure to figure out the right length for adjustment on mine.
KC9KAS 4,744 #17 Posted February 10, 2013 #1....Not sure what the part # is, but be sure to get a filter for hydraulics, and NOT an oil filter. #3...1" pipe threads.

Kevbo 81 #19 Posted February 10, 2013 #1....Not sure what the part # is, but be sure to get a filter for hydraulics, and NOT an oil filter. #3...1" pipe threads. Is there any specific size for the hydraulic filter?
Callen 64 #20 Posted February 10, 2013 Napa 1410 for filter. Tranny could be either ATF or motor oil. If it's red use ATF
