squonk 43,913 #26 Posted February 10, 2013 We have a local gas station chain that sells 93 non ethanol premium. Just filled the cans at $4.25 gal. My local OPE dealer sells VP racing fuel in qts. Comes in premix 50:1 for 2 cycle and straight for 4 cycle at $7.00 a can. I buy the 2 cycle stuff as it has a shelf life of 3 years with no additives. I don't use a lot of it. A little for the mini tiller, about 4 oz. for my Sthil hedge trimmer and about 1/2 can for my ancient Sno-Pup. It SMELLS LIKE NITRO!!!!
Forest Road 594 #27 Posted February 14, 2013 I've been draining all of my all engines at end of season. The snow blower gets fresh gas in December to test it then I turn off the fuel valve and let it run out. The lawn mowers get run dry as well. Same goes for my tractors. I turn off the fuel and let them run out. I haven't had any problems to speak of. I started using SEF premixed fuel in the 2 stroke tools at the vacation house. When I need a saw I can't wait. When I'm planning on a lot of cutting ill get a fresh gallon of high test. For those occasional uses I can't beat the SEF. The EPA SUCKS!
Tankman 3,523 #28 Posted February 14, 2013 I drain and then add a little stablizer... That's my routine. I always add stabilizer to the fuel too. Years ago, racin' a bit, we would purchase fuel at the local airport. I wonder, "Is that fuel OK for our Horses?"
Butch 194 #29 Posted February 15, 2013 If you want high octane go to a small airport. They'll have 100LL which is 100 octane low lead. Even though they call it low lead it is more lead than the lead we use to get in the old days of leaded gas. The airport here is self serve. When we road dirt bikes as a family of four I ran 100LL in all of our bikes.
markjs 2 #30 Posted February 17, 2013 Ethanol is making small engine repair shop owners and vendors of that new fuel line rich. They ain't getting rich off me. I'll use non-ethanol as long as it's available in everything I own. Merle Haggard asked, in the 80's, are the good times really over for good? I don't know but I fear they may be.
