Transmission transplant question

Would a 5073 from a Raider 12 bolt up to an 857? Specifically, would the brake band be in the right position given the combination clutch/brake on the 857? Also, does it have 1" or 1-1/8" axles? Thanks in advance.

A 5073 will bolt up to an 857, but you'll have to add a hole in the hoodstand "tunnel" for the range selector. The filler plate at the front of the "tunnel" usually needs modified to clear the hi-lo shifter.

You will also have to add a hole for the dipstick in the right rear corner of the storage area under the fender. Another option is to install a hollow hex pipe plug in the dipstick hole in the tranz case, grind it flush, and add a close nipple and coupler to the hole in the lower rear corner of the left case. (same as the 5060)

The brake drum is mounted to the countershaft on the 5073 and is closer to the front of the tranz. You will need the matching brake band and either a custom brake rod, or one from a newer tractor with the forward-positioned brake assembly.

The 5073 has 1 1/8" axles and a 10 pinion "limited-slip" differential.
