I was told its an 854 but it could be a 753

What is it ? Bought it as an 854 has a 8hp kohler but someone else said its a 753

Just a quick simple check you can do is measure the hood, If its a 854 it will have a longer hood than your other roundhood to clear the bigger aircleaner for the 181. Does the spec # on the engine work out correct for a 854?

Might be a 753. I do not know a whole lot about the newer round hoods. But the 854 I am pretty sure would not have a push button starter. And that is a 63 steering wheel I believe. Think the 854 had 5 bolt hubs too but I am not sure. Someone should be able to tell you by the serial tag but I don't know how to tell you. ~Jake

I believe from the serial number that it's not an 854. I believe all 854's have serial numbers that start with 40XXX and run up through 48XXX My 854's serial number is 40927. It might be a '63 753 as others have said. Enjoy your tractor!

The tractor is definitely a 1963.

Without the original engine and key switch (and belt guard decal), it's hard to tell if it was a 653 or 753.
