Jim_M 179 #2 Posted January 26, 2013 30W is what kohler recommends for warm weather operation. I use 30W in the summer and 10W30 in the winter.
rmaynard 16,350 #3 Posted January 26, 2013 (edited) Kohler says in their repair manual that straight 30W is preferred, and that multi-viscosity oils such and 10W30 and 10W40 are not recommended above 32 degrees. The owner of the machine shop where I have my engine work done swears by straight 30W. He feels that Kohler K-series engines run better, with less wear, and have more power when using 30W. Other weights such as 10W30 and 10W40 can be used, but only in cold weather where the temperature never gets above 32. I tend to agree with his thoughts and opinions. I run 30W year round.
