Using our tractors in the garden

Recommended Posts

mailman

Many of us here, ok, ALL of us here, have what we call GARDEN tractors. BUT, how many of us REALLY use them in the garden?

I have seen the moldboard plows being used. Thats great, but there is so much more these wonderful tractors can do for us.

MaineDad has a great site that shows us what plowing AND cultivating AND making rows with our tractors can do.

I wonder how many of us use them in the garden.

I, for one, intend to use my tractors for not just preparing the garden , but making rows, beds, and weeding (cultivating) AND harvesting as well.

If you do a search online you will find very little in terms of garden tractor gardening.

I have only found 2. Mainedad's and another called End Times Report.

I realize it's a dying breed (row gardening as opposed to permanent raised bed and no-till gardening) but I would like to see more of our tractors being used for what they were intended for .....gardening!

Anyone know of any other sites?

And if you do, please share with us your tecniques and equipment and pictures and/or videos of them in action!

I have been grinding up stuff for mulch and compost this last week. My phone is out of order so I can't post any picks (yet).

I Have also done a fair amount of regrading with the horses. More of that needs doing. I need someone to stand on the box grader though B)

I have a real limit on light, so my garden is too small for plowing. I would like a tiller, both for the garden and for loosening soild to be moved in grading operations.

No garden this year as we moved in to late to put one in. I do plan to put in a garden with my horse next year. Not sure if it will by tiller or the old moldboard plow. My garden is kind of boxed in by a fence on two sides, makes using the moldboard plow a bit more difficult and I currenty lack a disc. I also would love to get ahold of a Brinly 1 row planter. Brinly still makes everythinig BUT that planter, which I think was subcontracted to the Cole Mfg company. Garden way makes a hand push planter, we need someone to fab a conversion kit for clevis or slot hitch mounting.

I sold a freind of mines Cole planter at the WH show this year. Was to small for his garden so he converted a Case corn planter for use behind a WH. He planted 7 acres of sweet corn with it B)
