Toro WheelHorse 268

Hi,

I was just wondering if any1 has a Toro WheelHorse 268.

I recently acquired a non- running Ford ls45 w/ snow blower / mowing deck for free, cleaned the gas, replaced lines, filters, etc, new ignition coil.... and the 131" v-belt came in yesterday -just in time for the snow we got here today. I have to admit I didnt know what to expect form a 42" single stage blower but imo, it worked great, was throwing snow 20-40' no problem. anyway, sorry for the rambling. I believe this is the same as a toro wheelhorse 268 and was wondering if any1 had any experience w/ it. I like the foot control and turning radius but the rear tranny looks so damn newer that I'm wondering how durable it is. I tend to work my garden tractors and not keep them for show. Will this thing take some abuse or is it better for cutting lawns/ blowing snow? I ask this cause ya never know when a garden tractor might end up with a cab, hydraulics, loader or a hitch... :)

I've never used one but have owned a few all with bad transmissions, so go easy on the trans, but I hear they make great mowers

I have a 03 417XT, bought new, which is the newer version of the 268, like Kelly said they make great mowers. When I first got mine I did plow with it and it did well, but quit because I was afraid of the trans. It has sevrved me well and has 325hrs on it.

It is rated as a GT but I would not use it as such.

I do mow with a 246 kinda a early version of the 268 hand controls for the hydro, V twin briggs not a Kohler, I think the trans is the same?? it mows good but I have tried to pull my roller and it wined bad so I didn't do that again.

I did a quick internet search and didn't find much but I suspect the tranny might be the same or similar to what the Junk Deeres from the big box stores have. I bought a new JD 120 from Home Depot when I couldn't find a real garden tractor down here and ended up giving it to my son in law to mow with after I finally found a red machine. The JD was really nothing more than a lawn mower. It had issues just pulling itself up the steep hill by the lake. The only thing good I have to say about it was that it did mow nicely.
