657 backfire

i have a 657, with the ....dare i say it tecumseh, thi baby has never let me down, but now i have a problem. she backfires and runs horribly, i cleaned the carb, set the screws as i know best. but still doing it.. here comes the kicker i pulled the flywheel to check the points and clean them. my dumb :imstupid: a z z ! ended up cross threading the flywheel bolt upon reinstallation....anyway my question is does any one now why she is back firing, or any ideas?/? thanks guys :whistle:B)B)B):banghead:B) :banghead:

Make sure the ground (kill) lead from the magneto isn't shorting anywhere.

Unhook the wire from the terminal stud near the "rectifier" and try running it.....

Sometimes the ignition switch contacts can "break loose" and cause intermittent grounding of the magneto.
