HOW TIGHT SHOULD CHAIN BE ON A SNOW BLOWER

Hi All

How tight or loose should chain be on a snow blower i got a friend says his seems kind of loose .

Mine seems like its got at least half inch play in it . If this is to loose is there away to adjust the sprocket or do u replace the chain?

I cant find the documents but about a 1/2" of play at most. On the outside of the blower housing (drive chain side of course) there is a bolt that you loosen and one of the sprockets can be moved to increase tension on the chain. Its to cold and dark to go to the shed for a picture sorry, maybe someone here has a side shot they can post.

Here is a link to your blower with a finger pointing to the lower sprocket bolt that has the slot for tightining the chain. The photos are a couple frames into the posting

I had a couple blowers with older chains and they all were longer thant the slot would allow for tightening so I replaced the chains.

I like to see the vertical chain run up front between the 2 sprockets to be able to move forward or back about 1/2 inch mid length of the chain span. Not tight enough to bind the sprockets.

What model blower is it?

The newer two stage models have a poly block that can be adjusted to add tension--to a point.

1/2" of play in the longest run of chain is what the manual calls for.

Too tight will damage sprockets and bearings.
