glgrumpy 35 #1 Posted January 12, 2013 C-8 just got had park brake lock on wrong I'm sure. Have pix of it in OM, but not the clearest. There is the small L-shaped lever, pivots in middle where brake spring hooks on. One end has notches/steps to push against something. That Something is what I'm not finding. The short end is NOW positioned to be reached from the slot in fender. No cap or ball on mine now. Took couple pix of it after I turned it around. PO had the long part sticking out the fender and short end down doing nothing. Stepped end just touches the brake band and has no place to catch on it. Maybe it should be mounted in closer to tractor to catch the end of band metal?? The cut-out is lining up with the other rod from foot pedal, but is fighting for space there with the cotter pin and don't seem right. Is it just the order of assembly that is wrong in pix? TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #2 Posted January 12, 2013 The only thing I see that isn't right is the parking brake lever should be between the trunnion on the clutch/brake rod and the clutch arm. It should still work the way you have it installed though. The notches at the end of the lever should catch on the square reinforcement plate on the brake band. Is this a Commando 8 with a newer tranz or is it actually a Commando 800?
glgrumpy 35 #3 Posted January 13, 2013 Yeah! 800! Keep forgetting there is also an 8 version. Was thinking maybe it went back in more. Still don't see it touching that end on brake linig then? Seems it will be too long. I'll try again and see what happens.
glgrumpy 35 #4 Posted January 13, 2013 Went back out to see about part moving. There is paint off that part, can see in pix, that looks like it WAS behind the clutch arm. Can't move trunnion out of the arm before hitting metal. SO......looks like a real small pin in that arm to shaft to knockout? OR.....should it be easier to remove the belt cover on other side and remove shaft clip to move it out some? Pretty hard to angle pin right way to hit it, and pretty small and bends tools easy or peens over on most passed projects. Someone must have had apart and missed the assembly order, that is why it was wrong I'm guessing. Still seems like I will need to loosen up the brake link to allow the end of lock to get up onto the metal edge of band. Brake comes on right away and think I can loosen it some to be more correct. So Simple....Yet....So Hard! :banghead:
TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #5 Posted January 13, 2013 Removing the roll pin through the cast clutch arm is the only way to gain more room unless you unbolt the hoodstand, lift it up, and move it a little to the right. The opposite side of the drive belt (clutch) idler shaft is welded together and does not come apart on the belt side. I would try loosening the brake adjustment nut first. If the parking brake ends up working, you can move the lever to the inside at a later time. :confusion-shrug:
