ronhatch 406 #1 Posted January 6, 2013 When I bought my 857 back in 1996, it came with a 36" rear discharge 2 bladed deck. I never restored it and eventually got rid of it because the idea of a rear discharge didn't sound like a great idea. Maybe I was wrong. ?? My question is; did the 857 come with a 36 or 38" side discharge deck? If so, I would like to locate one. If not, has anyone installed a different brand side discharge deck on their WH? Thanks for your help and answers, Ron
855ownerJoel 32 #2 Posted January 6, 2013 There is a post in manuals that show options for impliments for all tractors, I have mine saved on a thumb drive that I forgot at work otherwise I would look it up for you.

TT-(Moderator) 1,162 #5 Posted January 6, 2013 The 36" two-blade deck is the best choice for the 857. (RM-367) The 32" two-blade deck was also available, but there was interference issues at the gauge wheels when used on the tractors with 8.50" wide rear tires. You could also install a 42" three-blade RM-425 deck, but the belt system on that deck is a nightmare. The two-blade decks do a really nice job mowing if they are in good condition and set up correctly.
stevasaurus 23,292 #6 Posted January 6, 2013 I agree with TT. I have an 857 with the 36 rear discharge deck. I also have a Raider 10 with a 48" side discharge deck. If I get my butt out there and mow when the grass needs it, the rear discharge is the way to go. With the side discharge, it will cut the higher grass, but I have to run over it a few times to mulch it down. Timing is the key here. I like the cut of the rear discharge better.
