Hammerhead 816 #1 Posted January 2, 2013 I got the call last week about some old WH hubcaps a fella wanted rid of. He said to come and look at them and he knew I would want them. I asked if they were rusty or not and he said they were a little rusted but not too bad. I said if you don't mind, don't clean them up, If I buy them I would rather clean them up myself. He said no problem, he would leave them as is. I went and looked at them today and he was right, I wanted them right now! Best part was the price, $50.00 for them all!! They cleaned up pretty good! Now I have to figure what tractor to put them on! Click on the pics for a bigger pic. KJ

GlenPettit 1,714 #3 Posted January 2, 2013 WOW! Nice caps and an excellent clean up. Also would like to know how you did it (cleaning)? . . .You got them & that price, by being a nice guy. Looked like a very fast cleanup too, the snow didn't change in the photos.
Hammerhead 816 #4 Posted January 2, 2013 I cleaned them up with 4-OOOO(4=Ott?) steel wool, that is the finest grade of steel wool they make, to my knowledge. I use it on WH red paint too, it removes the rust and the red paint comes though great! The 2 smaller hubcaps were covered in grease, so I had to use carb cleaner on them first, then used the steel wool to remove the rust, then I pollish them with a dry diaper type of rag. Sometimes I'll use WD40 with the good ole steel wool....so that is a trade secret, some other guys on RS do that too, but we invented it! KJ

I'm goin' to try it 1st thing in the A of M.An old jarhead, I would have used a rag and Brasso® for days! I have a polished set, the backs aren't too great but, out-of-sight.
