2013...The Year of the Horse!

OK folks, I have been getting my parts inventory for my 854, and I am ready to take the plunge. Last evening I ordered new 3-rib tires and tubes, new wheel bearings, and I got the front tires de-mounted and ready for the powder coaters. Small steps, but I'm excited nonetheless. Today will be getting the rear tires off the rims and ready as well. My tractor came with a near new set of Carslile lugs, so at least I shouldn't need to replace them :) .

My first, of many, questions is...does anyone know of a good small engine machine shop in the Pittsburgh PA area? I would like to have the Kohler gone through.

I promise that pictures are on the way...just been too busy werkin'! :ychain:

Thanks,

Jeff

Good Luck on your restore. I dont know of any shops myself anymore. Used to be a couple in town but they retired. Im west of you a bit. I no the pullers use shops in Oh. but that is for 30 and 40 and 50 HP single cylinder kohlers. I'll keep my ears open though.

Thanks for the info! For now I set the Kohler aside to focus on the rolling chassis. I had rebuilt the Unidrive shortly after I bought it because of water in the case. Basically gave it a good cleaning, new needle bearings and gasket. Tranny is done except for an outside cleaning and some paint.

My first delimma is that once I got into the front axel and steering assembly, I noticed a bit of wear on the pivot pin and the steering rod that the tie rods bolt to. I have a 753 tractor for parts, so I decided to take look at the steering. The 753 appears to have a cast tie rod link that is held in place to the shaft with a roll pin, but my 854 is a welded steel. Is this correct for these models, and if so, am I correct in guessing that I can interchange them?
