I have a 857 that was touched up and I would like to keep the original decals on it. Would kerosene or paint thinner work or even gas ???? Hodge71 665 #2 Posted December 29, 2012 Gary, I would definitely not use any of the things you mentioned. I would think that because of the aggressive solvent nature of them, they will cause the adhesve to become soft and ruin those decals. Maybe some of the autobdy guys on here can be a bit more help. boovuc 1,090 #4 Posted December 29, 2012 Orange Solv, (citrus based cleaners), or possibly some diluted tar remover "MAY" work but in almost all cases, once a solvent-based paint gets on a decal, be it paper or vinyl, it is there for life. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

But I have say I am not to fussy on how the decals come out they are the originals.Like the front of the hood the decal there is all paint and the decal is part off I have some great 3M spray on adhesive it works real well.The tractor is unpainted. I will just buff it out with compound then wax. I have new ones for it but I decide to put it back together and ride it till I am ready to restore it. Lane Ranger 11,411 #7 Posted December 29, 2012 OOOO Fine Steel wool can remove some paint ( depends on how much paint and how long its been on there, etc) but don't press too hard or it can damage the decal!
