Hi I am just wondering if any of you know how to take paint over spray off of decals??? I have a 857 that was touched up and I would like to keep the original decals on it. Would kerosene or paint thinner work or even gas ???? Any info on this would be great full thanks and Happy New Year. Gary B…………

Gary,

I would definitely not use any of the things you mentioned. I would think that because of the aggressive solvent nature of them, they will cause the adhesve to become soft and ruin those decals. Maybe some of the autobdy guys on here can be a bit more help. I would consider Prepsol but that might even be too aggressive.

Orange Solv, (citrus based cleaners), or possibly some diluted tar remover "MAY" work but in almost all cases, once a solvent-based paint gets on a decal, be it paper or vinyl, it is there for life.

Some of the cleaners mentioned above, gently with a sponge scrubbie for dishes.

I don't have to remove paint often, use plenty of masking tape on all my decals.

:USA: :wh: Ok Guys thanks. But I have say I am not to fussy on how the decals come out they are the originals.Like the front of the hood the decal there is all paint and the decal is part off I have some great 3M spray on adhesive it works real well. The tractor is unpainted. I will just buff it out with compound then wax. I have new ones for it but I decide to put it back together and ride it till I am ready to restore it. So thanks for the ideas and I will go slow with it and feel it out. Happy New Year to all Gary B.....................

OOOO Fine Steel wool can remove some paint ( depends on how much paint and how long its been on there, etc) but don't press too hard or it can damage the decal! I have had a few cases wherre the decal had some overruns from spray paint and this worked fine.

Definently work "non-aggressively first and with patiences; Orange or citrus cleaner and Mr. Clean "Magic Eraser". Then try Denatured Alcohol: evaporates quickly.

Try Graffiti remover at Lowes, be gentle and wash often, with soap and water.
