Odd front weights

Recommended Posts

Picked these up the other day. They weight about 20# each. I wonder what the piece is on them about 2/3 of the way around, 1/2" wide and raised about 1/2". Bolted on with 3 bolts. Anyone know what they're for?

I'm pretty sure they are MTD weights. I think they were for tractiors with 8" or maybe 10" rear rims. Dont know what the ring thingy is for.

Looks like decoration. Paint the weights red and chrome the 'shoes? :eusa-think:

I have a few sets of those, you can use the 2 holes that are straight across from each other to mount them to front wheels like on a WH, or on 8" rear wheels with holes, if the rim does not have holes, you mount the ring on the back side, hold the weight tight against the rim and tighten the 3 bolts evenly, there is a cone shape to the back of the weight that as the bolts get tighter the ring slides up the cone wedging it to the rim to hold it in place, that is why the ring is not a complete circle so it can expand as it slides up the cone.

I hope I explained that so you can understand it, the first set I had took me a while to figure it out.

Not the best picture it's cold and snowing out right now, but you can see the ring and the cone shape to the back.

I think they will fit some 6" rims also.

that clip clips into the rim on 6 in rims then you bolt the weight to the 3 bolts

Thanks Kelly, I figured if anyone knew or had them it would be you. They are on the fronts of my C125 with the 48" plow now.
