hey guys i aquired a parts tractor a few weeks ago with a k 301 in it. i got the tractor for the tranny but hte motor looked in good shape and complete. after hooking it up to a battery and giving it fuel it started right up on my bench so i put it in a tractor i've been rebuilding. it has been running great for a few weeks until i took it out of the tractor to do some work on the chassis. when i put it back in it wouldnt fire. i first checked for fuel which was good, it has spark, and i put a new battery in it, and checked the points. i pulled the carb today and took it apart and let it soak in carb cleaner. while the card was soaking i pulled th ehead and found a lot of carbon deposits. i cleaned the head and put it back on. i then pulled the tins and got confused. ive never had a breakerless ignition system but i saw what looks to be a trigger module with 2 leads labeled A and I. this confuses me because i also have points, condenser, and coil like the rest of my tractors. the trigger module was not hooked up to the coil so i dont think this is why the motor wouldnt fire. am i on the right track thinking the carb is the reason the tractor wont start, or do you think its in the ignition? i do still have spark. by the way, when i first got the motor it had no condensor but still ran without it, i have since added one. the serial number on the motor says its a 68 so i guess someone tried to convert it to breakerless at some time.

I have a k301 from a 68 Charger that has no coil outside the flywheel. Its a mag with points for the trigger. the Mag was part of the stator and charging system didn't work, so i removed the flywheel and replaced the bearing plate, stator, flywheel, and added a external coil to make it run again. I am wondering if someone tried to convert it to a point saver system at one time. If you have spark, and it ran fine before, I would say lack of fuel. did you shout off the fuel valve?

no i have fuel at the carb, and after cranking the motor i pulled the spark plug which had fresh fuel on it. i havent pulled the flywheel yet so i dont really know how the charging system is configured yet. i have 3 wires coming from the bearing plate. 2 are routed towards the rear of the tractor so i assume they are for the charing system the other is routed to the front. the one routed to the front was never hooked up when the motor was running but when i was troubleshooting i noticed that it was grounding out on the blower housing and producing a weak spark while i was cranking the motor.

i would pour some fuel in the sparkplug hole to see if it fires,it could have a vapour lock,or the float could be stuck, maybe the fuel in the hole will get it pulling some fuel
