Sparkplug recommendations?

Hi everyone, I know this might be a simple topic but I was wondering about using the new "E3" sparkplugs in Wheel Horse machines?

Is it a good idea to run these in the Kohlers OR should I just stick with the standard type spark plug? If that is the case, what sparkplug brand should I go with? What do you use?

Each engine has it's own recommended spark plug. Check the owners manual. If it's good enough for the manufacturer, it's good enough for me. I can't see how you will get any better performance from any other "special" plug. Remember in most cases you are dealing with a single cylinder, basic engine that just needs spark at the correct time. I doubt that you would notice any difference in performance or mileage. (Just my 2 cents worth)

I've used the E3's in my engines. As Bob said, I didn't notice any additional performance, but I tried them because the regular plugs kept fouling in one of my engines. I had a "smoker" that would foul the plug after 15-20 running hours, but I've never had the problem with the E3's due to the design. So if you're looking to improve performance, I'd use any good plug, but if you have an issue, the E3 might help.

Regarding the problems with Champion plugs (from on earlier postings), I bought an HC10 Plug, it didn't work, when back to the dealer and bought a second one, not work, then went back and bought a third one, still didn't work right in the engine. Had a friend with great equipment check and said they were all faulty inside. Wrote Champion and returned one, 3-days later got a call apologizing *, then got 24 NEW American made plugs that all worked plus a "care package" of maybe $50 in goodies from them, all free. I use Champion because I have them, but have heard good things about the E3 copper cores starting a little better/faster and fowling less.

So, it might just be the manufacturing, it might be worth returning it to the company, my incident was in 2006 and some of those plugs might still be in the stockroom at some dealers.

Our manuals & the research that went into them for our tractors is 30-40 years old, some things may have gotten better & improved with time, it's best to always be open to new ideas and listen, but, I think many of the old things were better with what was available then, certainly not everything new is better just because it's new. The person you should trust least, is the salesman.

I'd like to try one of these in my k91, I burn up a champion plug in it every time I have run it in a parade idling it, but have had no issues running them in other tractors. Does anyone know what number I need to get of the E3's for my k91? Thanks, Jake

I've heard bad things about Champion. Having good luck with Autolite. 458 in my k181 and 216 in my k241.

I bought a NGK last week just to try it on one of the Horses. I have not used it enough yet to say anything bad or good about it, but so far it is working.

I agree with 64s on this one I tried 1 in a smoker and it definetly kept itself clean. But that one instance is the only experience Ive had with them.

Just to follow up with everyone, I put Autolite 216s in my Kohler because I could not find an E3 equivalent...any thoughts?

I used Champion plugs for years but several years ago I got some that wouldn't last more than a week .So I started using the autolite 216 and that's all I use now. They work great for me. :dunno:
