DECK DRIVE DESIGN QUESTION

Recommended Posts

ronhatch

I would like to know which deck drive design is the best and why. Is the deck drive belt that is behind the front axle or the drive belt in front of the front axle better? Advantages and disadvantages to each design please. Thanks, Ron

There's no question that the Attach-Matic system / front-mounted tensioner is the best.

No tools are required for installation/removal or adjustment, and the mower deck and tensioner assembly can easily be installed or removed in three minutes or less.

Thanks Terry. Are the decks mounted to the tractor the same way?

The decks all mount via the mid hitch on the tractor, but the Attach-Matic system was not introduced until some time on 1972.

Prior to the Attach-Matic system, the latch on the mid hitch had to be locked closed with a pin inserted through a hole in the side plate.

Adding the Attach-Matic mid hitch on earlier models is a 100% bolt-on upgrade. Wheel Horse also offered a kit to add the Attach-Matic hitch to the front of the tractor frame..

One thing I really like about wheel horse is that once the came up with something that worked well like the Attach-Matic and the side PTO they did not monkey with it from the 70's through the 90's and even later.
