Sparky-(Admin) 19,674 #2 Posted December 1, 2012 Here in the states the 520's were the only tractors to come with gear reduction steering. And not all of them had it. I believe 1990 or 1991 was the first year for it. We dont have a 316 over here but none of our 300 series machines came with it. Mike.........
Driver 0 #3 Posted December 1, 2012 What do I look for? My 316 has very easy steering compared with the 520.
zieg72 209 #4 Posted December 1, 2012 Gear reduction steering... Count how many turns from all the way left to right. A 520H with gear reduction steering will have twice the count as one without and thus twice as easy. Your 316 is lighter and probably has smaller/more narrow than the 520H... Duff 206 #5 Posted December 4, 2012 Driver, welcome to ! If your 316 turns easier than your 520, chances are the 520 doesn't have the reduction steering. Converting requires a whole different steering set up, including, as I understand the process, cutting the shaft the steering wheel attaches to so that it will be the right length for the dash tower of a tractor that didn't have the reduction unit from the factory. What attachment(s) were you planning on using with the 520 that a reduction steering system would be better for you? Duff
buckrancher 2,678 #6 Posted December 4, 2012 1991 was the first year for reduction steering on the 520H Brian
