prpldude 0 #1 Posted July 28, 2008 I just got my first riding lawn mower. It is a Wheel Horse C-161 with 16 HP Kohler. I got it for free and it runs great. I would like to know what year it is. here are the numbers on the tag under the steering wheel. 91-16K801-20573 9073 I also need tips on getting the mower deck attached. It seems pretty simple, but I just can't seem to get it to seat right. The only things that don't work are the lights. If anyone has a wireing diagram that would be great. Thanks for your help in advance, Marc Attached Image
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,569 #2 Posted July 28, 2008 Marc, Your C-161 is a 1979. For attaching the deck, here's a link to a thread on how to remove one. Just reverse the procedure: Removing the Deck As for the wiring diagram, go to the links section here, and you're find links to the Toro site for manuals. If the manuals are downloadable you can do it there. If not, you can purchase them for about $2 each. Again, welcome to the site.
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,569 #3 Posted July 28, 2008 Here's the Links section. You will find under the Toro section, the Toro Product manuals link.

prpldude 0 #9 Posted July 29, 2008 I found a gas leak on the Fuel Pump (at least that is what I think it is) Line coming in from gas tank line going out to carb. I noticed the leak when my mower died and I saw a small fire under the hood. I went to the toro site and put the model number C-161 and product type Home Owner/tractor. It keeps saying it can't find it should I be using one of the other numbers for the model #? Thanks again.
TT-(Moderator) 1,147 #10 Posted July 29, 2008  Type in 91-16K801 as the model number and you will find your tractor at the Toro site. B)
C-Series14 15 #11 Posted July 29, 2008 use 91-16k801 91-16k801 is the VIN number, 20573 is the serial number, and 9073 means it was made on the 073 day of 1979... NOW, as for the free tractor, you made out like a bandit!!! I have 6 C-Series and in MY opinion, they are at the top of some of the best WH made. I have been using my C-141 and C-161 8-speeds for many years and not had to do anything to them.
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,569 #12 Posted July 29, 2008 Marc, As been mentioned, use the 91-16K801, it's the model number. Your C-161 is a pretty looking tractor. As for attaching pictures, if you used photobucket or similar you can load more than one picture per post. B)
prpldude 0 #13 Posted July 29, 2008 You guys ROCK... Yes when I heard this friend talking about getting rid of a working, riding lawn mower I told him I would come pick it up. Only 20 miles away... I guess it came with the house and land he bought... He already had a new one so didn't need this one. When I got there to pick it up and it started right up and ran solid... I asked him again if he wanted anything for it. He said "No".
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,569 #14 Posted July 29, 2008 You can't beat free....and it runs great to boot. Awesome. B)
linen beige 14 #15 Posted July 29, 2008 Marc, And FREE! You 'Horse thief! This is NOT your first "riding lawn mower", This is your first GARDEN TRACTOR. If you're anything like the rest of us, it won't be your only Wheel Horse. After using it a short while, take one of the newer big box riders for a spin and you'll see what I mean. prpldude 0 #18 Posted July 29, 2008 Ok for the mower deck I was making it way to hard. After following the instructions treed led me to, it was simple. The guy that gave it to me name is Craig. He doen't have any others. sorry. So far it is fun. I will have to fix the fuel pump leak and be back to using the TRACTOR. <--thanks Linen for the correction. I didn't realize what a great deal I was getting until I found this site. But now I do.
