The JM 1008 hood doesnt work

Click the link in my sig and you can see what it looks like. The way it sits in that picture there is no air cleaner on it. I got a cleaner / filter assy in the mail and went to install it today, low and behold the hood wont close. There isnt enough clearance. My question is would you cut the hood to make it fit or you a spare hood that would fit bur would have to have new brackets formed up front??
