fuel pump & fuel filter

Simple and maybe stupid questions (I'm a newbie to the tractor world).

I have a 1994 Toro/Wheel Horse 264-6 with Kohler CV14S motor.

The previous owner put a new fuel pump in and stripped one of the treads to the mount now it wobbles. I took the pump off and the gasket is damaged from the vibration. I ordered a new gasket. Question: When I re-install, do I use a gasket sealer? There wasn't any on when I removed it.

Second Question: Can I use a universal "clear" inline automotive fuel filter in addition to the factory filter? I forgot to order one. And I want a visual of clean gas running thru. The previous owner also replaced gas line, but there was all kinds of sediment in tank. I drained it out.

My question is what are you doing to repair the stripped thread?

Gasket sealer should not be needed with a good tight fit.

As long as you are not restricting the flow of fuel, you can put an additional filter in the line if you wish, but I don't see any reason for it if a good factory filter is already there.

Well I repaired the stripped thread with tapping out old thread with new thread and a larger bolt. I installed a new auto inline filter to replace original (because I don't know the condition of existing one...forgot to order). Now it still doesn't start...nothing..no lights, nothing! I called original owner, he said that if I wiggle fuse block it will start. Ahh no! that didn't work and I have a brand new battery! Any suggestions? Electrical? Ignition switch?

I would get those threads fixed first or your going to have the same problem again. Loctite makes a thread repair product or you can use a helicoil or Keensert.
