VinsRJ 723 #1 Posted October 31, 2012 Hello guys, I wanted to start a quick topic in reference to members we have not heard from since the storm. I know of a couple members in the NJ area which I have attempted to contact unsuccessfully. If you know any information about a member or if you want to issue a quick check in for yourself that would be greatly appreciated. Vince
Save Old Iron 1,571 #2 Posted October 31, 2012 My drag coefficient may not be .39 like it was when i was in my 20's but I can still hold up OK against most of what mother nature can throw at us.

CRE1992 135 #5 Posted October 31, 2012 I am okay, we won't have power for a week or more, I've never seen so many downed telephone poles in my life. I am currently 45 minutes away from my house filling up gas cans as it is the closest gas station that is open. Currently using my phone to type this. We are currently powering two homes off of my generator. Hopefully she holds up, I plan on building my own generator after we get out of this. Approx 10,000 watts or greater. AMC RULES 37,198 #7 Posted October 31, 2012 Working around the clock since 7pm Sunday night...the high winds and tidal surge hit West Point hard Monday night and again Tuesday morning. All the boats here at the Academy's north dock were thrown around like Chicklets. Down by the river doing clean up this morning...guy pulls up and says, hey...anybody seen my boat? Thinks it went adrift on the Hudson early Monday morning...hasn't seen it since. Most probably in Albany by now. Other than tidal surge, not a lot of water damage here, mostly downed trees from the high winds, that knocked out the power lines. Local electric companies aren't making any predictions on when it'll be back either. Lots of hard work in the meantime, and the cold house means you're sleeping good at nights. brandon701 23 #8 Posted October 31, 2012 Lost power and some trees down, but other than that everything is good in phelps ny.
118lfd 8 #9 Posted October 31, 2012 Some pic of the devastation we are experiencing just a mile or 2 east of my house. It will never be the same. So many lost everything including my friends and family. You can not even begin to imagine the magnatude. Rescues are still being made on the barrier islands. My house has made it through ok with minor damage but we are on generator power and will be for at least a week. Camp Osborn a beach front community just south of Brick Beach 3 All the houses were swept off their foundations and burned. No one could get out there to fight the fires. Casino Pier in Seaside a total loss the end collapsed and the old jet star roller coaster fell into the atlantic Mantoloking Bridge I kept my boat in a Marina just North and west of this pic a few years ago. There is a new inlet to the barnaget bay here now. Used to be houses and Highway 35 at the end of the bridge. Now there is just the atlantic ocean Aerial view of the area

Raider12 13 #11 Posted October 31, 2012 This is a mess. I just recieved a call this morning that I am headed for NJ early next week to assess damages for insurance companies. What am I getting into? I will continue to pray for those involved.
118lfd 8 #12 Posted October 31, 2012 My Friend is a public adjuster and they said the amount of claims precludes adjusters coming out to homes. Most insurance companies are just doing Claims based on photos of the damage. There are a lot of homes no longer there and even the property is now at the bottom of the atlantic. The maps are going to need to be redrawn. Before and after view of just one area.
nylyon-(Admin) 7,958 #13 Posted October 31, 2012 OMG, that is terrible. Having gone to Seaside often as a kid, I am deeply saddened that I hadn't brought my kids there to experience it. No doubt that it will never be the same. Very sad.
SALTYWRIGHT 861 #14 Posted October 31, 2012 WE ARE GOOD HERE IN NORWALK, CT. HAD FIVE LARGE TREES COME DOWN, BUT THEY JUST MISSED THE HOUSE. WE NEVER LOST POWER. WE ARE FINE. RUSS
Raider12 13 #15 Posted October 31, 2012 I can understand the idea of nothing to see. I am coming to evaluate vehicles for the most part. Such as the big rental car companies etc. My Friend is a public adjuster and they said the amount of claims precludes adjusters coming out to homes. Most insurance companies are just doing Claims based on photos of the damage. There are a lot of homes no longer there and even the property is now at the bottom of the atlantic. fireman 1,022 #16 Posted October 31, 2012 We're pretty good here. Lost power and cable Monday night, Then lost phone/internet Tuesday afternoon. Just got power, phone and internet back at 7:00pm tonight. No damage at all. Had a generator running so had all the essentials. I consider us very lucky compared to those in NJ, NYC and the CT shore line!!!
krazy_horse 59 #17 Posted November 1, 2012 Our Kroger stores are accepting non perishable food items and we are donating to the Red Cross. This is so sad people suffering and losing their home and processions. We hope and pray everyone will rebound.

Ken B 3,189 #21 Posted November 1, 2012 We are doing fine in Danbury CT. Still no power. Halloween cancelled two yrs. in a row now. There is a new record. The Mayor said we can hold Halloween on Sunday between 4-6pm because there will still be trees and lines down and he doesn't want people out in the dark. I suppose that means we will be without power until at least Sunday. No problem, could be worse. What I'm worried about is my parents. They are in their upper 70's now. They have no power and no generator which means NO HEAT. My Dad is on blood thinning medicine. (Cumanin) It makes him very cold, sometimes even in the summer when it dips into the 70's he is cold, its now much colder than that! I have been trying to get them to come to my place where there is heat and extra beds but my Dad keeps telling me they are fine. He is a big old stubborn Kraut (and he retired from CT. Light & Power many yrs. ago.) Trust me, Krauts and guys that have worked for the Power Company are stubborn as hell. (my brother DaveB works for the Power Company, yup, stubborn as hell.) If they still have no power today I might have to drag them to my house. :)
redidbull 54 #22 Posted November 1, 2012 I am in Stratford Ct about 2 miles from the water and are OK. We never lost power but my work is still out. Electric Co said 95% will be restored by Monday at midnight. Jim

We just brought them our generator and a couple of meals but they are ok now. Hope you all a quick recovery from this storm.
