joel_400 59 #1 Posted October 30, 2012 I rebuilt a vac fuel pump for a buddy of mine tonight...got the kit from Then and now. I replaced the check valves and diaphragm. Had to blow thru the tank to get fuel to the carb. Then it ran great...for a minute then ran out of fuel. Blow in the tank it runs again. Pulled the breather assembly to make sure the element wasnt plugged up and the reed valve was ok. All looked great. The engine is old but runs awesome, no smoke or anything has great compression and all. Any ideas what would be causing this problem? Seems like the engine isnt making enough vacuum to operate the pump? Joel
buckrancher 2,694 #2 Posted October 30, 2012 try cranking the motor over with the line off to the carb and see if the fuel pump is working it should squirt gas out the fuel line if it is not check to see if you put the check valves in the pump backwards
sorekiwi 761 #3 Posted October 30, 2012 Make sure you get a good prime to the pump, get the fuel line flowing well before hooking it up to the inlet of the pump. You didnt say what tractor it is, if its a sixties steel tank, remove the fuel strainer from the inside of the tank, and instead install an inline filter.
