The Second lawn ranger is home

Recommended Posts

Terry M

Brought the second Lawn Ranger home last week. Changed oil and drained old gas and refilled with new,non-ethonal, treated with Sta-bil gasoline. The ranger fired on second pull, ran on third pull. :)

Drove it around the yard and discovered that it runs really nice and has lots of power. Runs nicer than the first ranger. Only negitive is the trans seems like it whines a little and grinds /clunks a little when I shift into 3rd gear. That infamous 3rd gear haunts me again. :banghead: oh-well, sounds like another trans rebuild. The paint/sheet metal condition also looks alot like the first Ranger. My first plan next spring is to find a couple of nice lawn ranger seat covers for them both and paint the rims in powder coat and maybe new tires. I'll see if and where I can find some somewhere. . otherwise for now keep them looking pretty much original. here is a couple pics. Thanks for looking.

Very nice - I am amazed every time I get on my Lawn Ranger how well they operate for such a small tractor!

These look like great original tractors. If I were you, I would not summarily toss out the factory tires and seat covers. Tires to match the fronts are not available-so unless they are really cracked, you need to keep them. The seat covers that one of the members sells are very nice, but I think the original has 'dielectric seams' molded into the white vinyl-the new ones are sewn.

Just my opinion, and you know, opinions are like a**holes-- everyone has one and they often stink.

Nope fred, not all opinions stink...yours makes sence. The seat cover on my 2nd ranger looks like a replacement when you look at it from the back. A couple of new seat covers would look nice. The tires I may keep after all but the first ranger has a rear new replacement tire so I'll keep an eye out for one. I'd like to repaint the rims in powder but keep the red paint like it is(for now). Thanks Fred for your opinion, it's always welcome. :)

I also have a third lawn ranger now. It's stored south of springfield, IL. at Clarke's tractor storage center. I'll see if maybe I could get them to post a pic for me! :greetings-waveyellow:

Nice Lawn Rangers Terry. I agree with Fred, keep the front tires if you can. A little tire black or latex paint can do wonders. If your in the market for a replacement seat, check out my vendor section. My reproduction seat covers are made using an orginal seat cover for the pattern and the tufting is made from marine grade vinyl with dielectric seams molded in, not sewn.Dave

Terry, I would post a pic but I've been taking parts off of it to use on my projects and there's just not a lot of it left. :ychain:

Wow Terry- looks like you are trying to corner the market! I wonder how many Lawn Rangers were built because there seems to be a lot of them still out there.

And Dave, I appologize about the sewn seams. I should have looked a little closer at picture.

No problem Fred. I did do a Pink custom seat cover for Scott's daughters pink tractor that had sewn seams. We aren't able to get the pink in a dielectric material. It's a lot of work to sew the seams.
