Push rod- how short is too short?

Recommended Posts

The timing push rod for the Kohler K301 according to the spec. is supposed to be 1.55" in length. At what length should they be replaced as they wear? I could not find the answer to that in the manual.

I'm sorry - the push rod that I am referring to is the one that operates the points. I think what you are referring to is the valve-to-tappet clearance.

My guess would be that you would need to change it if you can no longer set the correct points gap.

:) Points rod length: 7 and 8 HP K-series, Min: 1.250, Max: 1.260. 10 thru 16 HP, K-series. Min.1.500, Max: 1.600. O.D. both series Min: .184. All these numbers are from Brian Miller. web site. I do know that when I am working on a K-series with a alum. point rod, it is the 1st to go in the trash can. :flags-usa:
