Sparky-(Admin) 23,245 #2 Posted October 21, 2012 I would still check the "new" points for proper gapping. Yes, the coil could be bad as well as the condenser. With the ignition key on do you have 12 volts at the coil? Mike........
Kelly 1,033 #3 Posted October 21, 2012 turn key on see if you have 12v at the + side of the coil, if no check wiring to coil and switch, if yes put the test light on the - side of the coil and crank engine the light should blink as the points open and close, the cond. is hooked to the - side of the coil right? if the light does not blink/flash check points. fourwheels0 191 #4 Posted October 21, 2012 thanks guys i'll try what you said. it's been "rewired" lol no key switch just an on-off switch. the starter is wired directly with an old headlight push button. hot wire from the battery goes into on-off switch, wire coming out of switch and goes to + coil,- coil goes to points. condenser goes to - coil. does that sound right for the wiring?.
