leeave96 490 #1 Posted October 19, 2012 What is your favorite ag tire for these Wheelhorse tractors? I have a set of Firestone 23 deg tires on a 318-8 - which I have always thought to be the best ag tire you could get - and they make the tractor go like a Jeep, no need for a diff lock! Problem is - they have not held-up. They seem soft and yet cracked. Also, they aren't holding their diameter. They are balooning to a larger diameter with air pressure - sort of going round rather than staying relatively flat across the tread face. They are very pricey too. I've got a 520H with Carsile Tru Power tires on them. They seem great and to me will do anything the Firestones will - at a lower cost. I've got yet another 520H with Carsile Super Lug tires. These tires are old, hard and seemly worn out! But, I still get great traction, even when moldboard plowing. The tire shoulders are somewhat rounded vs the Firestones or Tru Power. I run ag's with wheel weights year round and see no negative effect on the yard during the summer when mowing vs turf tires. It also seems to me like you could get these ag's in 2 or 4 ply. Do you have a preference for either? I'd just like to know your thoughts on ag tires in addition to my own experience. Thanks!!!!!!! Bill
CRE1992 135 #2 Posted October 19, 2012 They stopped making the carlisle super lug in big sizes. They now make carlisle tru powers to replace them. I would run Tru powers. I have had them, they hold up, and are a great tire.
WheelHorseSteve 56 #3 Posted October 19, 2012 Carlisle Tru Powers. Flat (with a proper width rim) and solid brand/company.
SousaKerry 503 #4 Posted October 19, 2012 I run a pair of Carlile True Powers(10.5 wide) on the puller and change them out to the worker tractor when not pulling. Great tires look mean and leave great looking tracks in soft ground :handgestures-thumbupright:
Kelly 1,033 #5 Posted October 19, 2012 I have a set of Tru powers on my 520 I like them very much, but as was said above rims selection makes a big difference in how the tire looks and sets on the ground, I have 26x12x12 on 10" wide rims, I also have a set of the super lugs 23x8.5x12 on 7.5" wide rims and they are nice tires also, the Firestones are very nice tires but the two very old sets I have 23x8.5x12 are both very weather checked and hard but still dig good, but as you saif they are not cheap. WheelHorseSteve 56 #6 Posted October 19, 2012 The Tru Powers are a 45 degree bar -- the Firestones... 23 degrees. Any thoughts on the difference here from a traction or mud shedding perspective? (which bar is a better angle?)
