Torino 15 #1 Posted October 16, 2012 Since I picked up a C-175 with a replacement series 2 I have read how bad the non adjustable Walbro carb is. Is it true?
JackC 617 #2 Posted October 16, 2012 I believe the Series 2 came with different carburetors depending on the year. I have two C-175s with Series 2 engines and I have had no problems with carburetors. Not sure if the carburetors are adjustable or not because I have not had any trouble and have not had to look at them. There is a Kohler carburetor reference manual out on the internet that lists all carburetors for the engine. I did buy some adjustable carburetors as back ups just in case. Save Old Iron 1,571 #3 Posted October 16, 2012 Bad only if you love to diddle with the mixture settings before an inevitable carb cleaning. The Walbro is manufactured for a progression of air fuel ratios the manufacture knows is correct for the operating range of the engine. Adjustable carbs are "diddled with " in the field to achieve what the operator believes are correct settings. The lack of adjust-ability may force you to do the right thing and soak the complete carb when others will spend weeks trying to adjust away partially blocked passes in an adjustable carb. I'm with Jack on this one. I have several non adjustable carbs performing well into their "senior years". If any fail to perform well, a quick soak in a gallon of carb cleaner brings them back. Failing a good soaking, they go into the ultrasonic bath. Then they spring to attention !!

SousaKerry 503 #5 Posted October 16, 2012 I just rebuilt my KT-17 II Walbro carb last month and the only adjustment is for idle. It ran like crap I striped it down soaked it and put it back together with a carb kit and it runs better then ever. Had a deuce of a time finding the kit at my local dealer so I went online and bought one through Amazon of all places. Only problem I had was one of the seals wasn't quite right and had to drill a couple of holes in the gasket between the 90 degree elbow and the air cleaner base, but that was probably a fluke cause of my oddball air cleaner (engine was said to come from a Simplicity but spec numbers say it was from a Cub )
