combinedmf 1 #1 Posted October 12, 2012 I have a 1999 314-8 (73449) and I am hoping you guys can help me resolve a starting problem. For quite a while now the tractor starts fine when cold, but once hot it will not even crank. The lights come on on the dash but nothing else. If I let it sit and cool for a couple of hours it will start again. More recently it has started doing the same thing on an intermittent basis even when cold. hbrooks49 12 #2 Posted October 12, 2012 On intermittent electrical problems with any equipment I always start by cleaning and checking all the high amp cables/ wires - battery, soleoid, starter, etc. That takes care of it 90 per cent of the time and is the quickest, cheapest, simplest thing to do. combinedmf 1 #5 Posted October 12, 2012 It's not a spark issue. It never gets that far. The starter won't turn at all as if the PTO was engaged or the transmission wasn't in neutral or seat switch wasn't depressed. dsholler 54 #8 Posted October 12, 2012 My 414 has intermittent problems like this, and I found that the bolt that holds the ground wires to the sheet metal on the tower seems to come loose pretty regularly. I am not sure if it is vibration or temperature, but I tighten it up and it works fine, and a couple of months later I have to do it again. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
leeave96 490 #9 Posted October 12, 2012 Good! You've ruled out spark as others have suggested time to dig a bit deeper into the electrical. Ground as suggested is a great place to start. If it's good, then it might be a solenoid or the key switch. Can you test to see if your solenoid is working? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
