c161rat 185 #1 Posted October 8, 2012 A friend of mine just bought a mid 70's C-120. Looks to be in decent almost original shape however I noticed that the motor is bolted straight to the frame. Both my C-series are "rubber mounted".......Furthermore the motor is only held to the frame by 2 bolts. I have pictures but my phone is not cooperating with me right now and will have to get back over there with my camera. I am wondering (even though I probably already know the answer) Is this supposed to be this way?????? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
racinfool40 203 #2 Posted October 8, 2012 Rat,Yes some are bolted directly to the frame..and if you reach up under the frame on the PTO side..There are 2 bolts that come up from the bottom and bolt to the oil pan. MIKE Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
varosd 1,185 #3 Posted October 8, 2012 yes, my 77 K181 is bolted to a engine mount and then the frame. I think the 78 or 80 and up yrs had rubber "motor" mounts. those Kohlers do a lot of shake rattle and roll! :D Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I thought for sure someone retro fitted a different motor on this tractor and eliminated the rubber mount and engine cradle. Has anyone ever changed this to a rubber mount style? Just wondering what advantages/ disadvantages there would be.......I would think the rubber mount would cut down on vibration at higher rpm's ..... Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

But they also let the motor be "pulled back" from the flexibility of the rubber mounts when put under a load which actually loosens the belt some. More prone to happen on the older machines (I quess they are all older now aren't they ). I know the 16 Kohler in my C-165 moves alot when the clutch is dumped. If I was setting up a tractor for the pulling circuit I would be swapping out the rubber cradle for a solid mount. Mike.......... Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
