Changing to Forward Swept front axle?

Recommended Posts

43federal

I have a 520H with a regualr straight front axle that is hard to steer. I'm thinking of changing to a forward swept (FS) axle (my other 520H has one of these and is really easy to steer). What would be involved in changing over to a FS steering axle? Thanks!

You'll need to swap out the fan gear, lower steering shaft to the front axle too.

What is the year of the other 520H with the swept front axle?

The easier steering may be due to the gear reduction steering on the newer ones.

:text-yeahthat: It's not a hard swap, but you will need to pull the engine to change the lower steering shaft, gear reduction steering makes them much easier to turn, parts needed, front axle, correct spindles, tie rods, and lower steering shaft made for the forward swept axle, OR if you go with steering reduction you will need all of that lower steering shaft reduction block with gears and upper steering shaft, and watch buying used stuff much of it I've seen is well worn, I have extra complete set ups but they are worn bad, I've had a number of 520's all with worn steering parts.

But new the reduction steering will run about $400 the front axle set up is another $600

You'll also need the correct front wheels. The hubs are larger than standard to accept the 1-inch axle bearings.
