The ID tag if it's still there, other than that there is no good way to do it, there is speculation on some ways, but nothing documented.

As Kelly said , the only true way to know is to have the serial tag. But if the tag is missing there are ways to tell where in the production the tractor could have been put together. For example: what is the date code casted in the tranny case just to the side of the shifter arm imput?

A pic of the tractor would help also.

In my opinion, even a serial tag wouldn't help you. As far as I know, no one has ever managed to find a tag with RJ-59 on it and there is no officially published serial break between RJ-58 and 59. The production quantities/serial break floating around out there are just speculations from the early yahoo group days. Nothing available to disprove it... so it just became accepted. (I won't say it became fact because there's nothing available to prove it either) Personally I don't believe there is a true RJ-59.... just RJ-58s made in 1959.

You can try to get close by using the date code from the transmission, but even that is an approximation. Production years changed late in the year prior, and any tractor could have easily had to have a service part from a later year installed.
