MalMac 1,332 #1 Posted September 25, 2012 I have got a Kohler 12HP that keeps leaking gas through the carb out the air breather when shut off. Not pouring out just enough that you can smell it. If you pull the air filter off it has some gas soaked in it. To me this would indicate some sort of a stuck float allowing gas to be let in the bowl. The tractor runs great and does not act as if it had any carbs problems at all. Now with that being said I keep getting and oil gas mix leak on the head gasket. This is a very strong running C-121 with all kinds of power butt something is going on just not sure what. Would like to get some opinions before tearing it down. (Topic should say Kohler 12 not 10)
rmaynard 16,343 #2 Posted September 25, 2012 First thing I would do is remove the carburetor and clean or replace the float valve.
MalMac 1,332 #3 Posted September 25, 2012 I think that's the first step. Take the carb off see what's going on. Any other time I have had this sorta problem the tractor ran like sh*&. This time around it's running fine with no problems and that's what kinda confuses me.
Coadster32 793 #4 Posted September 25, 2012 I agree, the fill/float valve could be just not closing all the way. As far a oil/gas mix on the head, I'd check the oil. If it's thin, you're fuel pump might be leaking internally into the crankcase. This would give you a gas smell as well. Either way, good luck.
