Martin 2,133 #1 Posted September 22, 2012 ive been wanting to do this ever since i got this tractor up and running. i dont really have a need for an hourmeter, but a tach in that bare spot on the lower model c's, now thats something i could get excited about! first of all i needed to get a tach to use, found a 'not sure if works' 520 one on ebay. got it home and hooked it up to make sure it worked. well from reading a few threads on here about the correct stator in the single cyl kohlers to use, i was hoping that the correct one was already on my k301. this thread of scotts was very helpful in my research.... anyway on to the install, first of all i removed the black paint off the bezel so that it would match the ammeter a little better. then i needed to cut out the hole, the plastic was easy as its marked on the back with a deep groove, so i just heated up a knife and ran it around the groove. the metal plate was next, im thinking that hole in there was just right, not so, the 520 tach is a little large for that hole used for the hourmeter, so i had to file it out larger...... then fit the gauges back in, install switches etc, steering wheel and work on the wiring...... from the thread i linked above, theres another link to a thread on soi's site which gives the terminal designation on the back of the gauge. mine was marked good so it was easy to hook up. you need to get a signal off the single terminal side of the rectifier where the stator wires hook up and run a wire from that to the 's' terminal on the back of the tach. then you need to get a hot when ignition is on source, to run to the 'i' terminal. this is your power supply to the tach when the ignition is on. i made up a jumper to insert into the lights circuit where it hooks to the light switch to run the tach and lights as well. this is fused..... the red wire in back goes to the lower 's' terminal and the orange goes to the 'i' terminal ( one on the clamp right side stud) then run a ground from the 'ground' terminal. ( left side stud of the gauge clamp), and hooked this to the neg terminal of the battery..... and hopefully everything works!!!!!! :confusion-scratchheadblue:
