cjsdad 18 #1 Posted September 21, 2012 I bought this C-85 a few years ago for plowing snow and it has never charged properly so I finally decided to find out why. I've worked with automotive accessories for almost 30 years so I have a good working knowledge of electrical systems. I started by checking the output of the alternator and it was about 35 volts A/C. Working! I checked the voltage across the battery and it did not go up when running. Not working! I cleaned the contacts on the regulator and no change. This is starting to look bad! Then I noticed there was no ground between the engine mount and the chassis. Ya gotta have one of those! I put a heavy guage ground strap between the engine mount and the frame and shazam! It charges! Just a little troubleshooting and I have a working charging system. Now I can put some lights on it!
