Trailer so rare they never made them.

I got this dump trailer last Saturday at an auction for $25. The hitch fits my 953 slot hitch perfectly. I've seen photos of the regular older dump trailer, but if this one is modified, then it was done with amazing skill a very long time ago. The strengtheners and pedistal are factory looking and they all have traces of red. Is there ANY chance this could be original? The dump mechanism looks too good and well thought out to be normal home brewed.

Oh, before you mention it, yes the hitch is upside down on the 953. I haven't touched it since I brought it home 2 years ago.I'll get to it eventually.

A couple more photos. The tube frame is wierd, but the welds are very nicely finished. It just doesn't look homemade to me. I did notice the bed sides top lip taper to the rear, where they are the same width all the way back on the regular trailer photo I see on the net. It came with two flat wheelbarrow tires and some conduit spacers, I found a couple of wheels & tires from who knows where that fit the axle right.

Very well built. If it's not store bought, someone had alot of time on their hands with this!!!

Nice trailer! Never saw a WH trailer like that, doubt if it's a WH product.

When I was in the shop building SS prototypes, I once made a trailer and a RD deck.

Used 316 stainless steel, then red paint.

The trailer you have would be a piece of cake to fabricate. Needless to say, "Great find and purchase price was excellent.

Post a pic when you're done with the rust and new paint job. Trailer is definitely a keeper. Have fun.

To me that looks like a ridiculous amount of steel for such a small cu ft trailer? :scratchead: With the tube frame, the first place I'd look for info would be Bolens. Second place would be the many faces of Jacobsen riders. (Jacobsen also had a slot hitch)

Either way.... for $25 and it fits the slot hitch..... it's hard to go wrong.

It very well could be a one off project, but the original builder would surely like to have it back as much trouble as he went through. I really don't think it was a regular aftermarket trailer or production since there couldn't possibly be any profit margin. I'll second that opinion that this was a ridiculous amount of metal for no more box than they ended up with. Even though it looks like it was stored in a pond its whole life, it only has one ding and that in the back lip. It wasn't beat on anyway. Sandblasting won't be a lot of fun with all those pits & nooks and crannies.

Looks pretty cool to me, I don't think it is a WH product either. It looks like something to haul concrete to me. That is why it is so heavy duty. KJ

I like the design of it , it think it goes really well with your 953 , It maybe a little over constructed but i would rather have that than one of the modern type trailers ,

It looks like the under body of the load ing bed was designed to house something.

If you maybe put some doards around the top of the load bed it would double the loading capacity

great find / love it

I'm thinking the big underbody was to help dump. The higher it is, the more will flow out without shoveling and you could pull forward to dump most of the rest. Of course the higher it is, the more unstable it will be as well. The thought behind it was pretty good, the axle has 2 grease fittings on it. The only real design flaw i see is that is has such a small diameter axle for such a heavy made trailer. 3/4" and it was bent at both ends when I got it, though the wheel barrow wheels and their 2" conduit spacers put the load farther towards the ends than the originals. If I were his shop teacher, I would have deducted a star for that oversite. Still, it will work fine with the bigger tires and wider axle spaced wheels I put on that don't need spacers. MAYBE it was used to haul mortar or something like that?
