tractornut86 621 #1 Posted September 14, 2012 I have a 401 and was hopeing go redo it this winter but was wondering about colors to use. I used to be a Valspar Int. Red but Tractor Supply no longer carries it. Rustoleum works good but takes forever to dry and Krylon drys fast but doesnt lay on real thick and doesnt have a high gloss. Is there a happy medium?? What about rims and seat? Ive seen white and almond but a friend used a ivory which is kinda in the middle. Just trying to bounce ideas around and figure something out for when I do decide to do it. rmaynard 16,349 #3 Posted September 14, 2012 There are many threads on color choice. Just do a search on Wheel Horse red and you will find many topics. I personally paint my tractors what ever color appeals to me. The first two were painted with Kirker automotive single-stage acrylic urethane in Flame Red. I found that to be a little too orange in direct sunlight, so the next tractor was painted with PPG single-stage acrylic urethane in GM Standard Red WA7475. My choice of acrylic urethane is simple. It goes on nicely with an HVLP sprayer, and it dry quickly to a super gloss finish. Rims I have powder coated in a color called Oyster White, RAL 1013
AMC RULES 37,203 #4 Posted September 14, 2012 I'm kinda partial to that candy apple red one Kelly restored.
Jake Kuhn 1,579 #5 Posted September 14, 2012 I go with automotive paint, but its not the cheapest. For red the code is pr4 and it would be called a 2004 crysler red. You should be able to get it mixed at most auto parts stores. I matched it to a nos hood I had for my 401. Here's a picture of my 401 I painted with it. ~Jake

Coadster32 793 #7 Posted September 14, 2012 "off White" seems to look better than pure white. It also seems to hide dirt a little bit better.
