Cole 25 #1 Posted September 12, 2012 I have been having problems with my RD deck where when i mow high grass, the blades stop spinning and the pto is still turning, under the belt cover there is a spring connected to the arm that the idler pulley is on (you know what i mean ). and there are nylon spacers under this arm and then there are nylon bridges above the arm holding it still. My question is, should there be other spacers to keep this arm moving so when the belt sparts slipping, the pulley gets tighter to keep the blades doing their job. :eusa-think:
groundhog47 347 #2 Posted September 12, 2012 Is the blade belt reasonably tight Can you turn all bades with Main pto driven pulley, assuming three bade? Does the idler pulley arm spring pull really good, and is this a new occurrence and not with unit that has set up? My similar occurrence was bad belt and stuck arm holding idler then broken belt and sping after long set up. What tractor and woul you have mower model number; some one will have an exact answer. Don1977 605 #3 Posted September 12, 2012 Remove the spring and see if the bar moves free, it could be rusted causing it to bind. That type of idler shaft will ware one side of each slide block causing it to shift toward the front the blocks can be turned around as the other side doesn't ware. Drive belt from the PTO could be a bit lose causing it to cut in low grass and slip in high under a heavy load. The PTO can slip in heavy grass too.The worst thing is that the spindle pulleys are worn and causing the belt to slip hope that's not the problem. The nylon blocks will also ware places on the steel slide bar. I can be welded up and filed or ground back straight. I would finish by sanding it smooth. I have done all of the above to my 35 year old deck. I also made a new set of nylon blocks after I wore out both sides of the original ones. Don't know how any hours I have on that deck but I guess over 3000.
Cole 25 #4 Posted September 12, 2012  i have tried to remove the spring and belt, but the arm doesnt move, should the arm move??? i have also installed a new belt a while back
Don1977 605 #5 Posted September 13, 2012 The arm with the idler should slide easily with the spring off. You will have to free it to get the deck to work like it should.
