GT14 REar end, how to spin?

Recommended Posts

glgrumpy

Tractors apart w/out engine. Would like to spin the shaft for the rear-end pump. It is big 3/4" shaft. Want to spin with a drill maybe, but only go to 1/2". Not sure drill would be fast enough. Maybe use 3/8" drill? but then not fitting even worse. How to connect? Say an old pulley center, then weld on 3/8" bolt? I don't have any old pulleys now. Can't think of anything in hardware store to slip and tighten on shaft and still allow welding on. Any ideas?

I tried a rubber sanding drum in drill and rested on pulley. Doesn't go very fast and nothing seemed to move at all. Not sure if just the speed or ?? I tried the hydraulic lift at same time, and no movement. Electric motor and belt? I don't have motor now either. Messing with a mount is pain, maybe where motor Was on tractor? Lookin' more like I'll be assembling whole tractor and putting in engine before I can test it. Need an idea to try to run it before that if possible.

Hey Grumpy... go to Transmissions and transaxle section and read a thread by squont on how to flush hydro/lift unit. He just used another WH and ran a belt from running tractor pto to hydro pully to turn it. pics show how he did it. I dont know how to post threads to other threads in the forum. Not computer smart enough!! but hopes this helps.... Fooze

It Worked!!! I used my charger 12 to run the 14 axle, using the orig 14 drive belt even.....and it works! I'm so glad! Was really afraid I had gotten a lemon. The hydraulics work too. NOW, I can take the axle back out of frame and clean up and paint and re-install! Been a good day, thank you very much for that great idea!
