Tankman 3,523 #1 Posted September 4, 2012 Been lookin' around my recently adopted 414-8. Lots to do, poor Stallion was neglected. Cleaning this, that, straightening "stuff", looking to change the fuel filter. Where is the fuel filter located on this model? Perhaps I didn't look long enough, old eyes. On my '68 and '73 Horses the fuel filter is in plain sight. I like that, visual inspection all the time.

Tankman 3,523 #3 Posted September 5, 2012 if it were me i would replace all the fuel lines and then put the filter close to the pump My thought exactly. Then too, the fuel filter would be visible. Visibility is a plus. Along with other chores, on my 'morrows list.
Sparky-(Admin) 23,266 #4 Posted September 5, 2012 There is a fuel "strainer" in the tank that is part of the shutoff valve. Its realy just a fine mesh screen to catch particles and it's often overlooked. I've bought 25+ year old machines that looked like they still had the original tank shutoff/strainer. If you buy one make sure and get the rubber grommit that it fits into to give it a good seal. Mike.............
Tankman 3,523 #5 Posted September 5, 2012 Replaced fuel lines adding a filter in-line and between the steering column and engine. Quite visible even with the hood down. I did let the tank "gush" from its' drain valve before adding new fuel line and clamps. The old Horse is up 'n runnin'. Always a but. But, need to figure out how to set the Kohler's carburetor.Tinkered a bit, have to tinker some more.
