urdrwho10 0 #1 Posted August 29, 2012 I hooked up my meter to the spades but I am not sure which spades should be open, closed etc. This silly 6 way switch is $55 to buy and I want to make sure it is dead before buying one. On a better note, is there a way to jumper the connector to start the mower deck? I am not a fan of the electronics on this mower. I don't need Bosch type relays, or 6 way switches to start a mower. I want my 310-8 back!
LDPosse 2 #2 Posted August 29, 2012 Did you try disconnecting the seat switch? If you just unplug it, the mower will run as if there is someone sitting on the seat. You can just put 12v to the PTO clutch to make sure it's working OK.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,272 #3 Posted August 29, 2012 If your switch is part number 78-3030 the test procedure is on page 3-36 of the 523 page Demystification Guide you can download from the Files. Garry
urdrwho10 0 #4 Posted August 29, 2012 Not sure of the part number but I will check out the guide (I have it on my computer). Update on the switch -- I removed it and gave it a good soak in WD40, dried it out, replaced it and now 100% of the time the PTO will engage. Have I just put a bandage on a dying switch? Maybe. For now the $55 stays in my pocket. I believe the problem is how I store the mower. My 310-8 gets the good bedroom in the shed, covered by a roof. The 212-H sits outside in the elements. I try to cover it with a tarp but sometimes I forget and it sits in the rain. IMHO a tractor should be able to take getting wet but maybe the PTO switch doesn't like it. urdrwho10 0 #5 Posted August 29, 2012 Ok, my WD40 cleaning of the PTO switch worked --- for a while and then it stopped working. So I unhooked the electrical connector to the clutch and hooked a switch inline direct to the battery. Started the engine, energized the clutch and it grabbed. Did it many times and it always worked.Unconnected my switch and re-connect the connector to the clutch. Started engine, tried PTO switch and nothing, no energizing the clutch. Tried many times and nothing. So apparently it is the switch --- or part of the safety switch arrangement, perhaps it is one of the Bosch like relays that is inline with the switch.Do I keep my switch arrangement and save the $55? If I spend the $55 for a new switch and it still doesn't work I will not be a happy camper. Did you try disconnecting the seat switch? gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,272 #6 Posted August 30, 2012 The oldest 212-H uses a different switch than the newest which is the 78-3030. I did not check all the models to see when it changed or if there is a 3rd or more switches. Garry
urdrwho10 0 #7 Posted August 30, 2012 A new switch and $60 has seemed to have fixed the problem.
