tomtractor 71 #1 Posted August 29, 2012 Does anyone have any words of wisdom when it comes to installing a fuel pump on a K301 12hp Kohler motor? It is probably as easy as unbolting and re-bolting. Any thoughts or things to watch out for?
rmaynard 16,343 #2 Posted August 29, 2012 Clean all the gasket surfaces thoroughly, and be sure to install the pump with the lever arm above the camshaft.
Kelly 1,033 #3 Posted August 29, 2012 Don't put it on upside down, I know this because........... :hide:
79horse 0 #4 Posted August 30, 2012 How do you know that it is on the top side or under it? will it be in the position that it needs to come out in and you install back the same way. I will be changing one in the next couple days so just wanting an answer to help me also.
rmaynard 16,343 #5 Posted August 30, 2012 Inlet and outlet fitting should be on the top side. Lever that rides on the cam should be angled up.

Okay, I've replaced exactly one fuel pump on my Wheel Horses over the years (apparently correctly), so bear with me here... What else would happen if you installed it upside down? Thanks! Kelly 1,033 #10 Posted August 31, 2012 99% of the time it will not work, you might even bend the arm or crack the housing if the arm gets in the wrong spot on the cam.
