duke 49 #1 Posted August 27, 2012 I have a hydro drive issue, shouldn't the 1-1/8 lock nut remain tight when moving from reverse to forward? If I tighten mine the shift won't move at all! Could it be rusted on the shaft and that's why the lock nut must be loosened in order to shift?
can whlvr 994 #2 Posted August 27, 2012 often part 6-42 gets rusted to the shaft and the tab breaks that gets bolted to the side of the tractor
duke 49 #3 Posted August 27, 2012 Right and if you loosen the big nut it moves back and forth on the threads enough to drive. Can I leave it like this or will it eventually cause an issue with Hydro-drive? How do you remove it then if it's frozen, cut it out? "Granted I'd have a replacement first!" Oh and thank you for the reply!

SousaKerry 503 #5 Posted August 27, 2012 soak it down with pb blaster or similar penetrating lube every night for a couple of weeks eventually it will break loose but be patient.
duke 49 #6 Posted August 27, 2012 I will do that, almost like removing the steering wheel! Thanks! :)
jusjeepn 59 #7 Posted August 27, 2012 I've soaked them for weeks and used heat several times, all to no avail. It's just a really tight area to work in and you really can get any leverage to hold the shaft. I've had to cut out several on tractors I was fixing to sell. If it was mine, It would stay that way until I rounded up the parts and had time and enough ambition to fix it. Unless it has been this way for years with a LOT of use, it's not gonna wear out any time soon like it is.
duke 49 #8 Posted October 14, 2012 I just bought one from an Electro 12 and it fit perfectly. I cut the old one out and seperated the pieces afterwards just to see how "stuck" it really was! Some heavy black gunk was between the metals, maybe old grease?
