Jake217 20 #1 Posted August 18, 2012 Hey All, I am all set to swap the Eaton 700 in my 312A to an Eaton 1100 I just picked up from a 520-H. The transaxle and the pump are together along with the original lift hoses. I would like to see if I could add the hydro lift to the 312A ( making it a 312-H, I guess) so I don't have to do a by-pass, but before I go out and get a control valve, cylinder, etc. I would like to know if anyone has done this. I searched the forums and found a lot of threads about by-passing the lift ports, but I could not find anything where someone has retrofitted a hydo lift into a machine that originally had a manual lift. Has anyone done this? and by chance are there any picutures? Thanks for any help. Jake
kpinnc 14,566 #2 Posted August 21, 2012 In many cases (300/400/500 series), Wheel Horse used the same dash towers and consoles for both hydraulic and manual lift. They usually require no modification to swap hydro to 8-speed, and manual to hydraulic lift. All of the mounting holes are there for both. The only problem you may have is locating all the small parts that are different from one to the other, which can quickly get expensive. If you can find a donor machine for a reasonable price, it will pay for itself. I changed my 518-H from manual lift to hydraulic, and the only thing I had to modify or change (aside from the valve, hoses, cylinder, and bellcrank) was the covers on the dash. They were notched out to accept the "dial-a-hite" adjuster, which I no longer needed.
Jake217 20 #3 Posted August 22, 2012 Thanks a million, kpinnc. That's what I wanted to know before I started going on this project. I don't have a donor machine with a hydro right now, but I can dig up the parts hopefully. I'll look at the Toro fiche. I have the "dial-a-hite" adjuster on that machine now. I guess I will no longer need it with the hydo lift. Thanks Again
kpinnc 14,566 #4 Posted August 22, 2012 I forgot to mention the tin that goes over the manual lift handle- opposite side of the drive belt guard. With hydraulic lift, you'll need to find a solid one without the cut out for the handle pivot. Like the "dial-a-hight" console covers, not changing it won't affect it's operation- but it makes the swap look like it came from the factory that way.
