38" recycler deck - works better with safety chute angled

My 212H, the one I have until I find a new deck for the 310-H has a 38 inch recycler deck. I noticed that the safety chute was angled down and the angle stopped the grass from flying out the side. Instead of it flying out, the chute was laying a row of grass as I mowed, an unacceptable situation. Plus I felt it was keeping the deck from aspirating the clippings and causing more grass to stick to the deck.

I wanted to angle that safety chute.

To try it out I found a nice round stick, about 3/4 inch in diameter and placed the stick under the chute, along the edge closest to the mower side. It raised the chute enough so that it is almost parallel to the ground. What a difference! There is no clumping, no rows of grass and the deck is staying cleaner.

I'm guessing that the powers to be decided that a safety chute wasn't good enough and they must angle it downward to keep anything from flying out. My 2.5 acres is surrounded by 5.5 acre lots, 3 acre lots, etc. I place it in with all the freak'in safety switches on the mower and the new type of gas cans. The kind that are spring loaded nozzles, for safety. I wonder whose safety because those darn things have caused me to spill gas on the mower engine.

This is a mod that I found helpful but do so at your own risk. It raises that chute a bit.

Yep, I agree. I've done it to the 46" deck on my Craftsman and it throws the clipping way better. I only lifter it an inch or so.
