How does one go about getting overspray off the tags that are riveted to the dash tower on a c series? I dont want to use laquer thiner or a wire brush on it because I don't want the black to come off. any ideas? Maybe a reproduction sticker?

I've used carb-clean on a rag to gently rub away the overspray. Rub too long and the black will start to come off too, just take it slow and pay attention!

If you are going to use a repro why not try this 1st.

I have restored several WW2 jeeps and

this is the best way I have found for restoring original zinc/brass data tags with raised/etched lettering;

#1 remove, clean and straighten as needed

#2 place tags on tin foil or an old baking pan

#3 pre heat your kitchen oven at 200 deg.

#4 spray paint the tags completly (black)

#5 place in oven 12/15 minutes max.

#6 with oooo steel wool/green scungy or equivilant rub lightly/carefully and walla you should have a very nicely restored tag
